Bio-gen Extracts is an Indian company established in the year 2000, which quickly gained recognition as a leading manufacturer of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients. With a focus on the development and production of scientifically-backed health ingredients, and recognizing the evolving requirements and popularity of the Nutraceutical market, Bio-gen Extracts entered that market in the year 2003.

Bio-gen Extracts now supplies over five hundred customers globally with nutraceutical products registered in the European Union, North America, Asia, Australia and Africa. Their understanding of each region’s regulatory framework and being able to meet varied standards and requirements has enabled them to cater to the needs of their customers worldwide.

In an interview, Salman Mehkri, Business Development Head at Bio-gen Extracts, who has been in the company for two-and-a-half years, said: “India has always been a great market for us and given its current demographics, the potential is incredible. With an average age of only 29 years and a thriving middle-class population of over 400 million consumers who are willing to spend on lifestyle and preventive health, the opportunities are endless. Having an experience of about two decades in the nutraceutical industry, Bio-gen Extracts is well established globally. However, there is still a lot of scope in the ASEAN markets such as Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam & Indonesia, which we are working on expanding through committed partners.”

Bio-Gen exhibit at about three to four fairs per year such as Vitafoods Europe, Vitafoods Asia, Supply Side West and CPhI India.  They have also exhibited successfully in the past at Health Ingredients Europe and Asia Pharma Expo in Bangladesh.

We asked Mr Mehkri “What do you see as the major trends in your industry? How does being kosher certified benefit your products? Where do you see your brand in the next five years?”

He answered “The technological advances throughout the globe provide a platform to consumers where information can be accessed anywhere, anytime. The consumer is now more aware and inclined towards researching products prior to making a purchase. The use of natural ingredients with minimal processing that are free of contaminants and allergens is on every consumer’s checklist. Thankfully, Bio-gen Extracts has been ahead of the curve in this aspect as we have invested a lot of resources on providing such products, keeping the consumer in mind.

Having a kosher certificate from a reputed company such as KLBD increases the value of the product for our customers as its scope of use increases substantially. It also shows our commitment to our core values of transparency and traceability of our products from the farm to the finished ingredient. We also have halal certifications, in addition to ISO, HACCP, GMP and FSSAI (India).
